A hand-drawn apocalypse runs on distorted guitars, bad attitudes, and streets full of monsters in Charlie Murder, Ska Studios’ side-scrolling beat ’em up with RPG ambitions. You lead a battered punk band through a grimy alternate America after their death-metal rivals, Gore Quaffer, turn fame into a world-ending weapon. The tone is gleefully nasty rather than truly bleak, mixing gross-out enemies, occult imagery, absurd humor, and an unapologetically punk visual identity. Beneath its cartoon violence sits a surprisingly substantial brawler about fighting for survival, style, and a louder fanbase.

Combat revolves around moving through 2D stages, chaining light and heavy attacks, launching enemies, grabbing weapons, and unleashing character-specific specials when crowds become overwhelming. Each band member plays differently, while leveling up grants stat improvements and skill choices that let you tune a fighter toward tougher melee hits, stronger ranged options, better survivability, or more effective special attacks. Enemies drop heaps of clothing, weapons, accessories, and odd equipment, so a large part of the loop is comparing loot for better bonuses while dressing like the most ridiculous survivor of the apocalypse. Tattoos function as more than decoration, unlocking Anar-Chi powers, while earning fans opens devastating finishers and cooperative attacks. Up to four players can join the chaos in local or online co-op, where revives and coordinated crowd control matter as much as individual damage output.

Charlie Murder stands apart from traditional arcade brawlers by treating punk fashion and character builds as central systems instead of superficial flavor. Its rough ink-and-paint art, energetic soundtrack, and satirical modern-myth relics give every level a personality that feels closer to a DIY comic than a generic ruined city. The combat can become messy, especially with several players and enemies on screen, but that scrappy excess suits the theme. Fans of Castle Crashers, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, or River City-style co-op brawlers who want deeper loot progression should find plenty to like, while newcomers can enjoy it as a straightforward couch-co-op romp.
