Chicken Police: Into the HIVE!

Clawville’s mean streets trade human cynicism for feathers, fur, and chitin in a sharply written noir mystery with a surprisingly heavy heart. Sonny Featherland and Marty MacChicken, veteran rooster detectives with plenty of baggage between them, investigate unrest that stretches from corrupt city institutions to the sealed insect district known as the Hive. The case carries them through riots, prejudice, grief, political rot, and the uneasy question of how far decent people can go before they become part of the problem. Its absurd animal cast keeps the tone playful, but the story aims for genuine drama rather than easy jokes.

Most of the action revolves around following leads across more than 35 illustrated locations, speaking with suspects, inspecting scenes, and combining information into useful deductions. Conversations matter: Sonny can press witnesses, spot contradictions, and use gathered evidence to open new routes through the investigation. Puzzles and side cases break up the dialogue, while several situations allow different approaches and can lead to altered results, encouraging a more thorough second run. The pace is closer to a classic point-and-click adventure than an action game, so success comes from paying attention to characters, revisiting clues, and reading the room.

What separates Into the HIVE! from many detective adventures is its commitment to its bizarre but coherent animal society. Every major encounter is fully voiced, and the cast of more than 30 characters gives Clawville a lived-in sense of culture, class tension, and old grudges. The visual presentation mixes stylized animation with a deliberately theatrical noir mood, while an optional Technicolour setting offers a brighter alternative to the default shadowy look. Fans of Disco Elysium’s political bite, Blacksad’s hardboiled investigations, or the first Chicken Police will find plenty to enjoy, though newcomers can also appreciate it as a character-focused mystery with humor, atmosphere, and real emotional stakes.
