Crawl (v1.0.1)

Indie 68.95 MB v1.0.1 2.3K views

Game Overview

Four friends turn a dungeon crawl into a vicious local rivalry, where only one player is alive and everyone else is trying to steal that role. Crawl mixes top-down action RPG combat with an arcade-style party-game structure: the hero hunts for gold and experience, while defeated rivals haunt each room as ghosts capable of possessing traps, creatures, and hazards. Its pixel-art catacombs are grim, bloody, and deliberately chaotic, but the mood stays gleefully competitive rather than oppressive. Every run builds toward a showdown against a massive boss operated by the players who have spent the match trying to murder the current hero.

Matches revolve around a constantly changing balance of power. The living player clears randomized dungeon rooms, opens chests, buys equipment, and levels up toward the strength needed to reach the exit, while ghost players choose monsters to possess and coordinate ambushes. Kill the adventurer and you immediately take their place, turning every successful attack into a chance to become the person everyone targets next. Weapons, spells, armor, and relics support different approaches, from close-range bruisers to magic-heavy builds, while defeated players gradually evolve their monster options into nastier demons, undead fighters, and other threats. Solo play is supported with AI opponents, but the game is clearly at its best with two to four people sharing a screen and trading insults.

What makes Crawl memorable is that death never leaves anyone waiting for the next round; losing simply gives you new tools to influence the match. The monster-evolution system adds real tactical variety, since experienced groups learn which possessed enemies work best in cramped rooms, near traps, or against particular hero builds. Runs are compact enough for a party session, yet randomized layouts, item combinations, unlocks, challenges, and shifting player alliances keep repeat matches fresh. Fans of Gauntlet-style dungeon action, TowerFall’s local rivalry, or asymmetric multiplayer will find a sharp, accessible competitive game here, though its best moments depend on having local opponents ready to play.

Setup Guide & Troubleshooting

How do I fix missing DLL errors for Crawl (v1.0.1)?

After extracting Crawl (v1.0.1), navigate to the _Redist or _CommonRedist folder inside the game directory and install DirectX, Vcredist, and any other dependencies included.

What should I do if the downloaded file is corrupted?

The full archive is 68.95 MB — make sure your download completed fully before extracting. Use 7-Zip to extract the files. If you still see a "file corrupted" error, re-download and try again.

Do I need to run the game as administrator?

Usually, no. Start the game normally from the extracted folder. If you see a permissions or save error, check that the folder is writable and follow the game's documented fix. Only grant administrator access when a trusted game's specific setup requires it.

How do I update my GPU drivers for this game?

Crawl (v1.0.1) requires a  NVIDIA since 2006 (GeForce 8), AMD since 2006 (Radeon HD 2000), Intel since 2012 (HD 4000 / IvyBridge) or equivalent. Update your NVIDIA or AMD drivers to the latest version for the best performance.

The game won't launch — what should I try?

Check that extraction completed and your PC meets the system requirements, including  Version 9.0c. Note any error message before choosing a fix. If it identifies a missing runtime, install the required DirectX components or Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft.

My antivirus is blocking the game — is it safe?

A warning needs to be investigated; the download source alone cannot confirm that a file is safe. Keep your security software enabled and review the detection details. Do not run or restore a flagged file unless you have verified that it is a false positive. If you are unsure, leave it quarantined.
