Between expeditions, Yamada improves his gear, gathers materials, and creates increasingly elaborate dungeons through his own game-development tools. The structure is approachable rather than punishing, but later stages demand more careful pathing and a willingness to experiment with builds.

What separates it from a typical retro RPG is its deliberately handmade feel: menus, monsters, dialogue, and dungeon ideas all reflect Yamada’s messy imagination and the creators’ affection for old Japanese games. The pixel art is colourful and expressive, while the story mixes slapstick jokes, workplace satire, romance, and moments of genuine melancholy without losing its playful tone. Players who enjoy offbeat titles such as Moon, Chulip, or EarthBound’s stranger side find plenty to love, especially if they value personality over polished genre convention.
