Game Overview

A poisoned water supply turns an ordinary city into a collapsing undead quarantine zone, and survival means pushing through block after block before the streets become impossible to cross. Dead Pixels is a 2D side-scrolling zombie shooter with a deliberately grimy, low-resolution arcade look, built around scavenging, shooting, and deciding when to run. Its pixel-art violence and deadpan atmosphere give the apocalypse a scrappy, B-movie energy rather than a polished cinematic sheen. Every trip across town feels like a desperate supply run where one locked door, empty magazine, or dense crowd can ruin an otherwise solid plan.

Players travel through procedurally assembled streets, entering homes and stores to search for ammunition, food, money, medicine, and better tools for killing the infected. Firearms, melee weapons, grenades, and consumable supplies offer plenty of ways to manage a horde, but ammunition and inventory space keep reckless shooting from being the only answer. Survivors can trade useful loot, while shops and scavenging stops create a steady risk-versus-reward loop: push onward toward safety or spend more time hunting for supplies. Three modes and four difficulty settings change the pressure considerably, and two-player local co-op lets a second survivor join the same frantic escape.

What makes Dead Pixels memorable is its mix of simple run-and-gun action with the uncertainty of a roguelite-style city layout. Buildings, loot, enemy encounters, and the route ahead shift between runs, so learning the basics matters more than memorizing a map. More than a hundred weapons, items, and grenades encourage experimentation, while online leaderboards and achievements give score-chasers reasons to survive a little longer. Fans of old-school arcade shooters, survival scavenging, and games such as Organ Trail will find a compact but replayable zombie outing here; newcomers can start on easier settings, while veterans can crank up the danger for a harsher endurance test.

Setup Guide & Troubleshooting

How do I fix missing DLL errors for Dead Pixels (v1.4.5)?

After extracting Dead Pixels (v1.4.5), navigate to the _Redist or _CommonRedist folder inside the game directory and install DirectX, Vcredist, and any other dependencies included.

What should I do if the downloaded file is corrupted?

The full archive is 309.78 MB — make sure your download completed fully before extracting. Use 7-Zip to extract the files. If you still see a "file corrupted" error, re-download and try again.

Do I need to run the game as administrator?

Usually, no. Start the game normally from the extracted folder. If you see a permissions or save error, check that the folder is writable and follow the game's documented fix. Only grant administrator access when a trusted game's specific setup requires it.

How do I update my GPU drivers for this game?

Dead Pixels (v1.4.5) requires a 128 MB Video RAM and at least Shader Model 2.0 or equivalent. Update your NVIDIA or AMD drivers to the latest version for the best performance.

The game won't launch — what should I try?

Check that extraction completed and your PC meets the system requirements. Note any error message before choosing a fix. If it identifies a missing runtime, install the required DirectX components or Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft.

My antivirus is blocking the game — is it safe?

A warning needs to be investigated; the download source alone cannot confirm that a file is safe. Keep your security software enabled and review the detection details. Do not run or restore a flagged file unless you have verified that it is a false positive. If you are unsure, leave it quarantined.
