Calagan’s ruined streets become a fast, violent hunting ground in this 2D action-platformer, where a super-soldier known as the Arbiter investigates a supernatural plague called the Harrow. The threat reanimates the city’s dead, but its influence also drags long-buried memories and wartime secrets back into the light. Foregone balances grim sci-fi fantasy atmosphere with vivid pixel-art environments, from rain-soaked urban ruins to industrial strongholds and corrupted underground zones. Its tone is serious and melancholic, though the moment-to-moment action stays sharp, energetic, and satisfying.

Combat centers on quick movement, responsive melee strikes, firearms, evasive dashes, and abilities that let the Arbiter tear through crowds without becoming invincible. Enemies demand timing and positioning, especially when armored soldiers, projectile-heavy monsters, and large bosses begin mixing their attacks together. Progression follows an action-RPG structure: defeated foes drop weapons and gear with different rarities, stats, elemental effects, and playstyle-defining bonuses, while upgrades broaden your combat options. Levels reward poking into side routes for chests, resources, and tougher encounters, and the difficulty rises steadily as stronger enemy variants test whether your equipment and reflexes are keeping pace.

The strongest feature is the way its Diablo-style loot chase fits naturally inside a focused, Metroidvania-flavored platforming campaign. Rather than burying players under an enormous open map, Foregone keeps its stages readable and momentum-driven, making it easy to enjoy both as a straightforward action adventure and as a build-crafting loot grinder. Crisp sprite work, dramatic lighting, and fluid animation give every dash, slash, and explosive shot more impact than the modest indie presentation initially suggests. Players who enjoy Dead Cells, Salt and Sanctuary, or action RPGs built around constantly replacing gear will find plenty to like, while newcomers benefit from accessible controls and a campaign that does not demand mastery of complex genre systems.
