From the Depths blends construction simulation, naval combat, and real-time strategy across an oceanic world ruled by hostile factions. The mood balances serious military engineering with gleeful mad science, rewarding both efficient designs and spectacularly impractical experiments. Rather than supplying a fixed arsenal, it asks you to invent the machine that survives the next engagement.

Players build vehicles and stationary defenses block by block, fitting them with propulsion, armor, fuel, ammunition, sensors, AI routines, and a huge selection of weapons. You can directly pilot creations in first person, issue fleet-level orders, or let automated systems handle targeting, repairs, movement, and firing solutions. Physical damage matters in unusually detailed ways: lost buoyancy can sink a ship, wrecked engines can strand an aircraft, and punctured compartments can turn a solid hull into scrap. Creative mode supports unlimited testing, while campaigns, faction stories, survival-style challenges, Adventure mode, and cooperative or competitive multiplayer give those blueprints a reason to exist.

What separates it from games such as Space Engineers or Besiege is the depth of its combat engineering, especially its customizable missiles, torpedoes, shells, AI behavior, and damage modeling. A vehicle does not merely look functional; its weight distribution, drag, lift, internal layout, and battle damage actively determine whether it works. The learning curve is steep, and early designs often fail for reasons that feel more like engineering lessons than conventional game difficulty, but experimentation is consistently satisfying.
