A floating fragment of an ancient world becomes the stage for a wildly unconventional three-way war between stranded space soldiers, an aquatic warrior society, and one colossal, deeply unhappy monster. Giants: Citizen Kabuto blends third-person shooting, light strategy, and creature-feature destruction with the offbeat humor of a late-1990s cult classic. Its Island setting feels bright and strange rather than conventionally sci-fi, full of bizarre wildlife, exaggerated characters, and conflicts that are never played entirely straight. Beneath the jokes, though, lies a surprisingly substantial campaign about survival and territorial control.

Players rotate between three factions whose missions genuinely change how the game feels. The Meccs are jetpack-equipped commandos who blast enemies with inventive weapons, rescue allies, and construct or defend bases while navigating large outdoor maps. Sea Reaper chapters shift toward a more tactical blend of combat, resource gathering, and managing units, while Kabuto’s sections turn the player loose as a towering beast that stomps through defenses, tears apart opponents, and feeds to maintain his strength. Objectives range from assaults and escort work to capturing strategic points, and the different control schemes keep the campaign from settling into a predictable shooter routine.

What makes Giants memorable is its willingness to mix clashing ideas that somehow fit: cartoonish comedy sits beside alien mythology, squad combat shares space with RTS-style management, and a gigantic kaiju is as playable as a gadget-heavy soldier. The 2000-era presentation and controls show their age, especially compared with modern third-person action games, but the imaginative level design and sharp personality still carry it. Fans of MDK, Sacrifice, Earthworm Jim, or old-school PC action games with experimental mechanics find plenty to enjoy here. Patience with a classic’s rough edges is essential, but players looking for a funny, weird, and genuinely varied single-player adventure are unlikely to find many games quite like it.
