Grimlord (v2026.02.15 & VR)

Steel, sorcery, and physical swordplay drive a punishing VR action RPG built around climbing out of a ruined, hostile land. Grimlord channels the tense atmosphere and interconnected level design of Souls-style adventures, but puts every block, swing, spell, and desperate dodge directly in the player’s hands. The tone is grim and demanding rather than arcade-like: safety comes from locating checkpoints, opening shortcuts, and learning how each dangerous stretch of the world fits together. A story of survival and rising power gives the journey more purpose than a string of disconnected arena fights.

Combat relies on motion-controlled freedom rather than preset attack animations. Players grip weapons at different points, alter their stance, strike around shields, and improvise with real-world-inspired techniques, while magic offers a more ranged or crowd-clearing approach. Progress comes through exploration and loot, especially collectible weapon components that combine into many different custom builds; a preferred blade can become a fast dueling weapon, a heavy damage dealer, or something tailored to a particular enemy. Traversal also matters, with climbing used to escape hazards and reach new routes, while enemy encounters demand attention to timing, positioning, and recognizable attack patterns.

What separates Grimlord from many VR combat games is its attempt to turn tactile fighting into a full campaign structure, complete with exploration, equipment progression, shortcuts, and major boss encounters. Its foes are meant to punish reckless arm-waving, so success depends as much on reading attacks and managing distance as it does on physical stamina. The weapon-part system gives players room to experiment without abandoning the personal feel of a favorite loadout, and the demanding bosses provide a clear test for those builds. Anyone who wants the weighty challenge of Dark Souls or Elden Ring translated into room-scale VR should find plenty to like, though newcomers to VR combat should expect a steep learning curve.
