Set in a consumer-obsessed 2067 where extreme violence supposedly keeps society calm, GUTS frames every match as a cartoonishly brutal reality-show spectacle rather than a grim martial arts contest. Its tone lands somewhere between trashy late-night television, splatter cinema, and arcade brawling, with a cast of nine bizarre celebrities whose rivalries are as absurd as their finishing moves. The goal is not simply to knock an opponent out, but to tear them apart limb by limb and deliver the decisive final strike.

Matches abandon the traditional health-bar tug-of-war in favor of a dismemberment system that changes how every round plays. Fighters use accessible directional inputs and special GUTS Moves to remove arms or legs, while stage hazards can shred careless contestants who get knocked into traps. Losing limbs does not end the bout; it alters available attacks and leaves players adapting on the fly, sometimes continuing the fight as little more than a pair of determined stumps. U-Points fuel useful abilities such as recovering a lost limb or activating special techniques, while the show’s unseen producer can interfere if the action becomes too dull, disrupting defensive or healing options to force more chaos.

That shifting moveset is GUTS’ strongest idea, giving its gore a mechanical purpose instead of treating it as empty shock value. Arenas matter because their traps create positioning battles, and the exaggerated character designs keep the violence playful rather than oppressive. Solo players get character stories and two endings for each combatant, providing roughly enough material to see all 18 conclusions over an extended unlock campaign. Anyone who enjoys the immediate accessibility of arcade fighters but wants something stranger than Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat’s familiar formula should find plenty to like, especially if they value unpredictable couch-versus matches over frame-perfect competitive depth.
