Halves is an action-adventure built around abrupt shifts in tone and genre, moving from tense horror to platforming, puzzle-solving, and zombie survival. Its strange premise gives the journey an unpredictable, slightly surreal mood, where allies, threats, and even the nature of the next challenge depend on the choices you make.

Progress comes through a chain of distinct levels rather than one consistent combat system. One section may ask you to shoot zombies, scavenge ammunition, and preserve health; another may turn into a platforming sequence, a logic puzzle, or an unsettling mansion investigation. Vehicle-focused stages add resource management, requiring you to drive carefully while monitoring fuel and hunger instead of simply rushing toward the objective. Decisions at the end of most levels direct the next part of the story, often based on whom you trust, so failure and success are not the only factors shaping a run.
