A flickering 1990s police terminal becomes the entire stage for a tense, intimate murder mystery. You sit alone with a database of interview recordings, searching through fragments of a woman’s testimony after her husband disappears. What begins as a seemingly straightforward missing-person case steadily turns into something stranger, sadder, and more psychologically unnerving. Her Story trades jump scares and combat for the creeping dread of realizing that every answer may alter the questions you ask next.

The central mechanic is simple but remarkably absorbing: type a word or phrase into the police archive, then watch the short video clips in which the interview subject uses that term. Search results are limited, so progress depends on careful listening, note-taking, and noticing details in her language, expression, and changing version of events. There are no conventional objectives, inventory puzzles, or fail states; instead, you build your own understanding of the case from scattered evidence. The interface encourages curiosity rather than brute-force completion, and the story moves forward whenever you make a connection the database cannot make for you.

Live-action performance gives the investigation its power, with Viva Seifert carrying nearly every scene through subtle shifts in tone and body language. The old computer desktop, grainy footage, and deliberately awkward search tools make the player feel less like a detective hero and more like an outsider rifling through sensitive evidence. Its nonlinear structure means two players can uncover the same facts in different orders and walk away with different initial theories.
