Game Overview

A bleak, monochrome land becomes a living puzzle box whenever you change the colour behind it. Hue is a side-scrolling adventure built around a brilliantly simple idea: objects sharing the active background colour vanish from view and, more importantly, from the physical world. You play a young man searching for his missing mother through ruins, laboratories, forests, and increasingly hostile spaces, with a gentle but melancholic story about grief, guilt, and the nature of existence. Its mood balances storybook charm with an underlying sense of danger, as every new colour turns familiar scenery into a different route.

Most of the action involves platforming, careful timing, and using a colour wheel to remove walls, expose platforms, bypass hazards, or make deadly obstacles disappear before they hit you. Early rooms teach the rules cleanly, but later stages combine several colours, moving machinery, lasers, enemies, and momentum-based jumps into demanding environmental puzzles. Death is usually quick and checkpoints are generous, so difficult sequences encourage experimentation rather than punishing it. Conversations with oddball inhabitants and narrated story segments give the journey personality between puzzle chambers, while collectibles and optional secrets reward players who inspect the edges of each area.

Hue stands out because its central mechanic affects both what you see and what can harm or support you, creating satisfying moments where a single background swap completely redefines a room. The silhouetted characters and scenery look striking against the bold palette, while the original score and polished voice work lend genuine weight to its emotional turns. Accessibility is unusually well considered: colourblind players can use symbols to identify colours, ensuring the core puzzle language remains readable. Fans of Braid, Limbo, or Thomas Was Alone who want a more explicit puzzle hook and a warmer narrative should feel at home, though veterans should expect later challenges to demand sharp reflexes as well as lateral thinking.

Setup Guide & Troubleshooting

How do I fix missing DLL errors for Hue?

After extracting Hue, navigate to the _Redist or _CommonRedist folder inside the game directory and install DirectX, Vcredist, and any other dependencies included.

What should I do if the downloaded file is corrupted?

The full archive is 159.76 MB — make sure your download completed fully before extracting. Use 7-Zip to extract the files. If you still see a "file corrupted" error, re-download and try again.

Do I need to run the game as administrator?

Usually, no. Start the game normally from the extracted folder. If you see a permissions or save error, check that the folder is writable and follow the game's documented fix. Only grant administrator access when a trusted game's specific setup requires it.

How do I update my GPU drivers for this game?

Hue requires a GeForce GT 610 (1024 MB) or equivalent | Radeon HD 6450 (512 MB) or equivalent or equivalent. Update your NVIDIA or AMD drivers to the latest version for the best performance.

The game won't launch — what should I try?

Check that extraction completed and your PC meets the system requirements. Note any error message before choosing a fix. If it identifies a missing runtime, install the required DirectX components or Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft.

My antivirus is blocking the game — is it safe?

A warning needs to be investigated; the download source alone cannot confirm that a file is safe. Keep your security software enabled and review the detection details. Do not run or restore a flagged file unless you have verified that it is a false positive. If you are unsure, leave it quarantined.
