Key: Maze of Illusions carries the punishing, restart-heavy energy of old-school action platformers, where each cleared room feels earned rather than handed over. Its 8-bit-inspired look keeps the presentation charming, while dynamic lighting adds a more modern atmosphere to the Earth, Hell, and Heaven-themed areas.

Movement is the foundation of every challenge: Zeno runs, jumps, shoots, and carefully times his way through hazards designed to punish impatience. The story campaign spans 33 dungeon rooms across three worlds, with keys acting as both objectives and a way to push deeper into the mystery surrounding his family. Enemy encounters and traps demand quick reactions, especially on the higher difficulty settings, while three boss battles break up the room-by-room gauntlet with larger tests of pattern recognition and endurance. Players can select from easy, medium, and hard modes, choose between several control layouts, and use PlayStation or Xbox controllers for a more traditional platform-game feel.

Local shared- and split-screen multiplayer gives the package a surprisingly social side, supporting up to eight players across nine competitive modes.
