Larger Than Light

A haunted middle school becomes a shifting obstacle course where light does far more than illuminate the halls. Larger Than Light is a 2.5D puzzle-platformer built around Skia, a young girl who travels through shadows, and Lux, her floating lightbulb brother who creates the routes she needs. Their escape unfolds against a moody, slightly eerie backdrop, but the central relationship gives it a more personal edge: these siblings are stuck working together despite plenty of resentment. The result is a compact-looking adventure that leans on clever spatial puzzles rather than reflex-heavy action.

Players control both characters at once, constantly balancing Lux’s position with Skia’s movement across the dark shapes cast onto walls and surfaces. Lux changes the scale and placement of shadows, turning ordinary scenery into bridges, ramps, safe platforms, or pathways around hazards; Skia can only progress where that darkness reaches. Each room asks you to read its lighting setup, reposition your living light source, and move with precision before the route disappears or becomes inaccessible. Progress is driven by increasingly involved environmental puzzles and the gradual need to coordinate the duo’s conflicting abilities, making the game more about planning and dexterity than combat.

The defining idea is simple but effective: platforming takes place in the negative space created by objects and light, giving familiar school corridors and rooms an unusual puzzle-game identity. Fully voiced exchanges, subtitles, and character portraits make the sibling bickering part of the experience rather than background flavor, while separate volume controls and adjustable graphics options help the game fit different setups. Its 2.5D presentation emphasizes silhouette, depth, and readable shadows instead of visual clutter, which suits the premise well. Fans of cooperative-style single-player puzzle games, especially those who enjoy the perspective tricks of games like Contrast or the character coordination of Brothers, should find plenty to like, though players expecting fast action may prefer a more combat-focused platformer.
