Liminal Void

The border between reality and an unknowable abyss becomes a hostile maze in Liminal Void, a minimalist horror roguelite built around panic, spellcasting, and inevitable death. As an agent of the Liminal Layer Society, you descend through unstable layers where hostile entities spill out from the Void and the gods behind it wait at the end. The atmosphere is intentionally disorienting: harsh visual effects, darkness, ambient guitar textures, and bursts of extreme metal create a feverish occult nightmare rather than a conventional haunted-house scare. Death is expected, but it also pushes the expedition forward toward Layer 444 and its godlike targets.

Each run revolves around collecting Sigils, managing a limited death counter, and deciding whether to fight, evade, or steal souls from the creatures roaming a layer. Souls fuel further spell use and extend your remaining time, while Sigils function as the vital resource for stronger attacks and safe passage through portals. Enemies can end a run’s current layer with a single touch, so positioning and quick tactical choices matter more than brute-force brawling. Four playable spellcasters offer distinct approaches, while 32 spells and 12 modifiers let builds lean toward crowd control, survival, visibility changes, altered enemy behavior, or destructive magical offense.

Its best idea is the tension between reckless progress and preparation: players can repeatedly die their way to the final layer, but arriving empty-handed means facing immensely durable Void Gods with almost no chance of success. Scores reward efficient kills, soul snatches, and careful Sigil gathering, giving repeat attempts a reason beyond simply reaching the credits. Character and companion selections lead to 16 endings, so the story has more replay value than its stripped-down presentation first suggests. Fans of compact roguelites, abstract cosmic horror, and resource-driven action in the vein of arcade survival games should find plenty to chew on, though the intense flashing lights and post-processing make it unsuitable for players sensitive to visual effects.
