Little Misfortune

Misfortune Ramirez Hernandez sees the world with the blunt honesty and make-believe optimism of an eight-year-old, even when that world is deeply wrong. Little Misfortune is a darkly comic point-and-click adventure about her search for Eternal Happiness, a mythical reward she hopes to bring home to her mother. An unseen guide known as Mr. Voice leads her away from a troubled household and into a forest full of dead ends, strange creatures, missing children, and unsettling truths. The result balances cute drawings, absurd jokes, and an increasingly grim undertone without losing sight of its child protagonist’s warmth.

Most of the adventure revolves around walking through hand-drawn scenes, examining objects, speaking with odd residents, and choosing how Misfortune responds to the situations around her. Her signature glitter lets players mark moments or objects she finds special, while dialogue decisions and smaller actions shape the tone of conversations and contribute to where the story ultimately lands. Puzzles stay light and intuitive, so the focus remains on observation, character interactions, and deciding whether to trust the cheerful-but-suspicious narrator. It is a compact, mostly linear experience rather than a demanding adventure-game challenge, but alternate details and endings give a second run some value.

Killmonday Games gives the presentation a storybook look that makes its nastier ideas hit harder, with expressive character art, voiced dialogue, and music that shifts smoothly between playful and ominous. The game shares a universe with Fran Bow, and fans of that cult psychological adventure will recognize its interest in unreliable authority, childhood trauma, and realities hiding beneath ordinary places. Little Misfortune is less puzzle-heavy and more immediately accessible than Fran Bow, making it a strong fit for players who want a narrative-driven evening with macabre humor. Anyone who enjoys the emotional weirdness of Sally Face or the choice-focused pacing of a Telltale adventure should find plenty to appreciate.
