The tone is proudly arcade-like and over-the-top, with chunky sprites, military absurdity, huge explosions, and bosses built to test how well you can stay mobile under pressure.

Missions send you across connected 2D stages to eliminate targets, recover equipment, destroy machinery, rescue allies, or track down dangerous bosses before the timer runs dry. Running, jumping, rolling, melee attacks, and constant shooting make up the immediate action, but the deeper hook lies in scavenging enemy drops and mission rewards to forge new weapons, blades, armor, and attachments. Gun creation is unusually flexible: barrels, stocks, magazines, ammo types, and other components alter damage, firing behavior, recoil, elemental effects, and handling, letting a basic rifle evolve into something wildly specialized. Solo play works well, though four-player local or online co-op brings the best kind of chaotic coordination as teammates revive one another, share the screen, and stack damage against larger targets.

Reloaded Edition gives the game a fuller package, with additional characters, missions, gear, and balance refinements that make its lengthy campaign more approachable than the original release. Its hand-drawn pixel art carries the exaggerated personality associated with Tribute Games, while the structure encourages replaying assignments for materials and experimenting with ridiculous weapon builds rather than simply pushing forward once. Difficulty can become demanding when boss patterns, mission clocks, and crowded arenas collide, but crafting offers meaningful ways to adapt instead of relying only on reflexes. Fans of Contra, Metal Slug, and co-op action games with real build variety find plenty to enjoy here, while newcomers should be ready for a grindier, more methodical run-and-gun than its arcade presentation initially suggests.
