Metaloid : Origin

A robot invasion turns a resource-rich planet into the battleground for a brisk, old-school run-and-gun campaign. Metaloid: Origin follows three android fighters pushing back Lucian Corp’s mechanized forces across nine compact 2D stages, from icy battlefields and volcanic mines to deserts under pursuit. The mood is colorful and energetic rather than grim, with constant projectile fire, quick movement, and screen-filling boss encounters driving the action. Its appeal lies in that immediate arcade rhythm: spot a threat, dodge the pattern, and blast through it before the next trap or enemy wave arrives.

Each hero approaches the same campaign differently. Erika specializes in heavy bullet barrages, Zeta brings devastating electrical attacks suited to tearing down large targets, and Neva uses a jetpack to attack from the air and reach spaces the others cannot handle in the same way. Levels mix straightforward platforming with themed set pieces, including mine-cart rides, scooter chases, environmental hazards, and towering walkers that demand careful positioning. Defeated enemies and stage pickups yield Soulrium gems, which can be spent through the pause menu on weapons and powers without waiting for a shop or checkpoint, while some stronger improvements require additional conditions.

The character-specific abilities give repeat runs more purpose than a typical short retro shooter, especially for players who enjoy finding the most effective route and build for each stage. Two difficulty modes do more than alter damage values: tougher settings make opponents quicker, more dangerous, and sometimes capable of entirely new attacks, so veterans get a meaningful reason to revisit familiar levels. Its pixel-art presentation and weapon-driven action sit comfortably alongside the spirit of classic Mega Man-style platform shooters, though the three-character structure gives it its own flavor. Metaloid: Origin suits newcomers looking for an accessible action platformer, while hard-mode players and score-chasing run-and-gun fans get the sharper challenge.
