Before La Soleil opens its doors, the Minaduki household runs on the cheerful chaos of six catgirls and their doting sister Shigure. NEKOPARA Vol. 0 is a short, slice-of-life visual novel that acts as a prequel and companion piece to Vol. 1, trading larger plot developments for a day spent cooking, cleaning, walking, bathing, and relaxing together. Its mood is unapologetically warm, sugary, and comedic, with the appeal resting on seeing Chocola, Vanilla, Azuki, Maple, Cinnamon, Coconut, and Milk in their home environment. Mature themes are present, but the focus remains on cute character interactions and domestic comedy rather than drama.

Reading is the primary activity here: scenes unfold in a linear, kinetic-novel format without branching routes, difficult decisions, or traditional gameplay systems. Kashou’s household routine provides the structure, moving from morning wake-up antics through meals, chores, an outing, and bedtime conversations. Fully voiced Japanese dialogue, expressive character sprites, and animated visual-novel presentation give even small exchanges more life than static text alone. Progression is simply about spending time with the cast and picking up the personalities, relationships, and running jokes that feed into the main NEKOPARA series.

What makes Vol. 0 worthwhile is its closeness to the characters rather than its length or narrative stakes. Shigure receives more attention than she does in the early mainline entries, while the six catgirls get to bounce off one another in low-pressure scenes that emphasize their distinct habits and rivalries. The polished anime artwork and abundant voiced banter make it feel like a compact bonus episode, closer to a comforting OVA than a full sequel. Fans of the series, especially players who enjoy the catgirls’ family dynamic, get the most from it; newcomers can use it as a gentle introduction, but should expect a brief companion story rather than the fuller romance and café narrative of NEKOPARA Vol. 1.
