Ship Regulus

A fleeing space city becomes both humanity’s last refuge and its most valuable target in Ship Regulus, an indie RPG with heavy management and survival-strategy elements. After a warp-engine test draws the attention of an alien fleet, the colossal Regulus station is forced into a desperate voyage aboard the Xuanyuan’s escape route. The story moves from immediate survival to expansion and, eventually, the search for a permanent home. Its tone is tense but not purely bleak: every successful upgrade makes the station feel less like a doomed evacuation vessel and more like a civilization being rebuilt in orbit.

Most of the action revolves around developing the city while keeping its population alive and its defenses ready. Buildings attach to expandable station shelves, turning space management into a practical puzzle as housing, industry, mining operations, and support structures compete for room. You recruit fugitives along the route, then deal with population needs, morale, criminal activity, and the wider economic pressures of supporting a growing community. Exploration and resource extraction feed construction, while research unlocks essential tools for the current stage rather than offering many meaningless sidegrades. Combat preparation focuses on weapon rings with fixed mounting points, gradually evolving into forward fortresses capable of carrying devastating late-game armaments.

Ship Regulus stands out through its physical station layout and its sense of escalation: a cramped settlement steadily grows into a heavily armed mobile metropolis. The randomized research order adds uncertainty, forcing players to adapt their development plans instead of relying entirely on the same optimized build each run. Later ambitions, including star engines and superweapons, give the campaign a satisfying progression from improvised defense to grand-scale engineering. Players who enjoy the colony pressures of Frostpunk, the modular construction of space-management games, and a more directed sci-fi storyline should find plenty to like here.
