Water Falls High School hides a labyrinth of locked classrooms, missing students, hostile oddities, and increasingly ridiculous dimensional problems behind its supposedly ordinary halls. Super Daryl Deluxe turns that setup into a hand-drawn RPGvania that is equal parts side-scrolling brawler, school satire, and surreal cartoon adventure. Daryl arrives dressed like an overcommitted action hero and initially hopes to make friends, but a small textbook-smuggling favor quickly pulls him into the school’s unraveling mystery. The mood stays knowingly goofy even when the hallways lead to monster-packed worlds and the stakes become far bigger than surviving detention.

Combat centers on fast, arcade-like punching, kicking, dodging, and launching enemies with a large selection of unlockable special moves. Rather than relying on one fixed weapon, Daryl equips abilities that fit different situations, letting players build loadouts around close-range attacks, projectiles, crowd control, mobility, or pure chaos. Quests from the school’s strange students and staff provide new skills, upgrades, and reasons to revisit earlier zones once fresh traversal options open up previously unreachable paths. Expect traditional Metroidvania backtracking, platforming hazards, enemy-filled rooms, and boss encounters that demand more attention than the game’s casual comic tone initially suggests.

Its biggest strength is personality: every location looks like it was scribbled into an animated notebook, while dialogue gleefully mocks RPG quest logic, school cliques, conspiracy stories, and genre clichés. The enormous school works as a connected hub, but individual classrooms can become wildly different themed dimensions, keeping the visual pacing lively throughout the campaign. Super Daryl Deluxe suits players who enjoy the exploration structure of Guacamelee! or the irreverent humor of costume-heavy action RPGs, though its intentionally absurd storytelling is the main attraction. Newcomers can enjoy its straightforward brawling, while completionists get plenty of quests, ability combinations, secrets, and repeat visits to chase.
