The Cubedex of Brass and Wood is an indie logic game built around mysterious electromechanical devices, all connected in ways that are not immediately clear. Its atmosphere is quietly strange rather than frightening, with the pleasure coming from examining a machine, forming a theory, and hearing the reassuring click that proves you are onto something. Each contraption feels tactile despite the digital presentation, like an artifact pulled from a workshop where engineering and riddles overlap.

Progress revolves around studying several distinct mechanisms and learning the rules they obey. The Balance challenges you to distribute eight weights across nine pans, while the Cart asks you to program a Bakelite robot through interchangeable tube components. Elsewhere, a seven-button Machine, a deliberately unhelpful Clock, a light-based maze, and the six-sided Cubedex demand observation, experimentation, note-taking, and occasional lateral thinking. Some puzzles clearly show their objective but hide a difficult route to it; others make identifying the actual task the first challenge. Optional starred variations of the Balance, Cart, and Machine extend the tougher ideas after their main solutions are found, making it less of a one-evening curiosity for dedicated puzzle fans.

What separates it from a standard room-escape game is its focus on understanding systems instead of merely hunting for inventory items or arbitrary codes. The devices have a pleasingly old-fashioned, almost steampunk-adjacent visual language, yet the puzzles rely more on clean logic than on dense lore. Expect a compact, solitary brain-teaser with little hand-holding and no action-based distraction; patient players who enjoy The Room, The Witness, or puzzle-hunt style deduction should feel at home. Newcomers can still make progress through methodical experimentation, but veterans who enjoy deciphering opaque machinery will get the most from its secrets.
