The Skin Stapler

Carrion City is a rain-slick nightmare of neon signs, filthy alleys, and crimes staged with grotesque theatricality. A burned-out detective named Dick Slater follows the trail of the Skin Stapler, a murderer who leaves victims flayed and their remains fixed to the walls like obscene exhibits. The investigation soon reaches far beyond a conventional manhunt, pulling Slater toward corrupted institutions, sinister recordings, and something festering beneath the streets. Its tone mixes genuine dread with the sleazy, occasionally darkly funny energy of an old VHS exploitation tape.

Much of the action revolves around examining murder scenes, following clues, and solving environmental puzzles that open the next piece of the case. The campaign does not stay locked to Slater’s viewpoint: control shifts to different residents of the city, each caught in a separate brush with the killer and forced to survive dangerous workplaces, homes, and nighttime streets. That changing perspective gives the story a more vulnerable edge, since not every sequence is about carrying a badge or taking charge of an investigation. Fully voiced characters and audio evidence help sell the mystery, while the pacing alternates between methodical detective work, tense escape scenarios, and sudden bursts of grisly horror.

What distinguishes the experience is its deliberate commitment to handmade, low-budget horror-film grime rather than polished blockbuster scares. The visual identity leans hard into lurid color, decay, violence, and exaggerated personalities, creating a world that feels closer to 1980s video-store shockers than restrained psychological horror.
