Ancient Egypt becomes a dense, dangerous labyrinth as Lara Croft accidentally unleashes the god Set and must seal him away before the catastrophe reaches the surface. Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation delivers the classic formula in one unusually cohesive setting, linking tombs, temples, ruins, and sun-scorched settlements into a long archaeological expedition rather than a globe-hopping tour. Its mood is more oppressive and mysterious than earlier entries, with collapsing chambers, cursed relics, and the uneasy return of Lara’s former mentor Werner Von Croy. Chronicles accompanies it with a lighter anthology structure, retelling several of Lara’s past cases across distinct locations and eras.

Expect deliberate third-person platforming built around precision jumps, ledge grabs, swimming, climbing, switches, keys, and environmental riddles. Combat remains a secondary but constant threat: Lara uses her trademark pistols alongside heavier firearms to deal with scorpions, mummies, soldiers, and supernatural guardians, while ammunition and medipacks reward careful searching. The Last Revelation’s Egyptian hub areas often let you revisit locations with new items or knowledge, making navigation feel more interconnected than the series’ earlier, strictly linear adventures. Chronicles changes the rhythm between episodes, sending Lara through a Russian submarine, a haunted Irish island, a New York high-rise, and other focused missions with their own hazards and tools.

What stands out is the sheer confidence in old-school tomb design. These are games that expect players to observe architecture, read visual clues, remember locked doors, and tolerate the occasional demanding leap; handholding is almost nonexistent. The low-polygon visuals and tank-style movement unmistakably show their age, but the atmosphere, puzzle density, and memorable locations still carry considerable charm. Fans of the original Tomb Raider trilogy, Indiana Jones-style archaeological mysteries, or modern adventure games that value puzzles over spectacle will find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers should arrive with patience and a willingness to embrace classic controls.
