Toodles & Toddlers

A grotesque toybox nightmare turns childish props into tools for survival, with a towering clown-demon waiting at the end of the chaos. Toodles & Toddlers is an absurdist indie horror game built around dark comedy, body-horror transformations, and the cheerful cruelty of treating a village like an experimental workshop. Its world is colourful and deliberately ridiculous rather than traditionally scary, but the underlying objective remains grim: grow powerful enough to destroy the escaped monster Toodles before his bizarre threats overwhelm you.

Most of the play revolves around collecting, throwing, combining, and repurposing balls, which act as the foundation for crafting creatures, equipment, and strange tactical solutions. Toddlers become mutant followers, consumable resources, or milk-producing assets depending on how you alter them, while villagers, mice, ducks, gummy bears, and other wildlife all feed into the same messy chain of transformations. Building an army matters because your malformed units must deal with hostile teddy bears, nightmares, and eventually the gigantic clown itself; feeding, armouring, evolving, and arming them determines how well they hold up. Random-effect twisters add risk to experimentation, so a promising follower can improve dramatically or become an unexpected liability.

What separates the game from more conventional horror indies is its willingness to make every cute object part of an unsettling crafting puzzle. Poop armour, plasma-sword guards, bubble-trapped flying creatures, and reanimated candy remains create a world that feels like a corrupted children’s cartoon filtered through a mad-scientist sandbox. Multiple combinations encourage replaying encounters with different army compositions instead of relying on one fixed route to victory. Players who enjoy the strange creature experimentation of Spore, the macabre humour of The Binding of Isaac, or offbeat physics-driven sandbox games will find plenty to enjoy, while anyone expecting a serious, atmospheric horror experience may find its gross-out comedy too chaotic.
