A side-scrolling roguelike dungeon turns every movement into a calculated risk, combining old-school RPG depth with a surprisingly readable 2D presentation. WazHack draws heavily from the spirit of NetHack, but its action-paused time system makes it far less frantic than it first appears: enemies only act when you do, leaving room to study a dangerous room and plan a way out. The mood balances fantasy adventure and dark comedy, especially when an apparently harmless decision creates an absurd chain of disasters. Death is permanent, but each failed expedition tends to teach a useful lesson about the dungeon’s many systems.

Runs begin by choosing from 16 classes, whose equipment, attributes, talents, and beliefs create very different early-game strategies. A knight can become a spell-slinging scholar after finding the right book, while a bard can manipulate monsters with music rather than meeting every threat head-on. Combat matters, but survival depends even more on experimenting with unidentified potions, wands, scrolls, traps, spells, and equipment. More than 350 items and over 170 enemy types ensure that a strong weapon is never the only answer; clever positioning, improvised tools, and a willingness to gamble on unknown loot regularly save a doomed run. Procedurally assembled dungeons keep routes, encounters, and available resources unpredictable, so no build is guaranteed to work twice.

What makes WazHack stand apart is the amount of emergent problem-solving packed into its compact dungeon crawl. Instead of rewarding blind attack-spamming, it encourages players to stop, inspect the situation, and consider whether a mysterious wand solves the problem or makes it much worse. Its approachable visual format helps newcomers grasp a traditionally dense roguelike, while the underlying interactions, class variety, and harsh consequences give genre veterans plenty to master.
