Game Overview

Ivan’s life is a string of disasters, and that bad luck becomes the engine of a darkly funny action RPG steeped in Slavic folklore. As a one-handed blacksmith pressed into service by an unreasonable Tzar, he hunts monsters, performs absurd errands, and tries to survive the competing demands of a scheming witch and an overbearing grandmother. Yaga mixes fairy-tale menace with dry comedy, giving its cursed hero a world of devils, household spirits, pagan rituals, and suspicious villagers. The result feels less like a straight heroic quest than a messy folk legend where every solution can create a fresh problem.

Combat plays out from an isometric perspective, with Ivan swinging crafted weapons, dodging attacks, laying traps, and using tools built at his forge. Hammers, axes, spears, and other gear can be assembled and upgraded with different components, so a run may favor heavy close-range blows, thrown weapons, or more tactical gadget use. Between encounters, dialogue choices shape Ivan’s reputation and relationships, affecting quests, shop inventories, secret opportunities, and the blessings or curses attached to him. Crossroads let players influence upcoming levels and their challenge, while talismans and artifacts radically alter combat behavior, making experimentation as important as raw equipment power.

Romanian and wider Slavic myth give Yaga a personality few fantasy roguelites possess, from its hand-drawn storybook presentation to the folk-meets-hip-hop soundtrack by Subcarpați. Choices are not merely cosmetic: Ivan can become a dutiful servant, a sarcastic troublemaker, a superstitious survivor, or something in between, and the world responds accordingly. Its randomized structure and changing builds encourage repeat runs, although players expecting the precision and speed of Hades may find its combat more deliberate and occasionally rougher around the edges. Anyone who enjoys Bastion-style isometric action, branching role-playing, and unusual folklore should find plenty to like, especially if they value atmosphere and build variety over flawless arcade responsiveness.

Setup Guide & Troubleshooting

How do I fix missing DLL errors for Yaga (v1.2.40)?

After extracting Yaga (v1.2.40), navigate to the _Redist or _CommonRedist folder inside the game directory and install DirectX, Vcredist, and any other dependencies included.

What should I do if the downloaded file is corrupted?

The full archive is 1.38 GB — make sure your download completed fully before extracting. Use 7-Zip to extract the files. If you still see a "file corrupted" error, re-download and try again.

Do I need to run the game as administrator?

Usually, no. Start the game normally from the extracted folder. If you see a permissions or save error, check that the folder is writable and follow the game's documented fix. Only grant administrator access when a trusted game's specific setup requires it.

How do I update my GPU drivers for this game?

Yaga (v1.2.40) requires a  GeForce 8800 GTX, GT640, GT730, Radeon HD 5850, HD Graphics 530 or equivalent. Update your NVIDIA or AMD drivers to the latest version for the best performance.

The game won't launch — what should I try?

Check that extraction completed and your PC meets the system requirements, including  Version 10. Note any error message before choosing a fix. If it identifies a missing runtime, install the required DirectX components or Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft.

My antivirus is blocking the game — is it safe?

A warning needs to be investigated; the download source alone cannot confirm that a file is safe. Keep your security software enabled and review the detection details. Do not run or restore a flagged file unless you have verified that it is a false positive. If you are unsure, leave it quarantined.
