Detailed pixel backdrops and a broad enemy roster help the journey feel larger than its straightforward premise, moving from slave pits and Roman fortifications to mythic territory where even gods can stand in the hero’s way. Permadeath mode offers a harsher test for players who already know the routes and enemy patterns.
