Petty thefts involving desserts, laundry, and other absurd everyday mysteries create a playful, cartoonish tone, while her exhausted assistant tries to contain the damage. Beneath the jokes, however, the cases gradually connect into a story with far more heart and purpose than the premise initially suggests.

Investigations revolve around examining scenes, tapping objects, gathering evidence, and choosing which clue to present when Nanko decides it is time to accuse somebody. Success rarely means making the sensible choice; the fun comes from embracing terrible logic, seeing how each accusation derails events, and uncovering the many failure routes hidden behind bad decisions.
